Poland-based developer Purple Ray Studio has announced Koshmar: The Last Reverie, an action-adventure game after two years in development. With veteran developers with credits on both AAA games and critically acclaimed indie titles, Purple Ray Studio’s sophomore title will offer players a third-person single-player experience with roguelite mechanics and RPG elements in a gothic-inspired world.

Purple Ray is developing and publishing the title for PC and console, but there is no release window at this time. Koshmar: The Last Reverie is aiming to combine “brutal” combat with an immersive world open for storytelling driven by players’ choices. Other elements of player agency come through the fact that combat weapons and abilities are unlocked depending on playstyle.

From the trailer alone, The Last Reverie’s Gothic and steampunk aesthetics are immediately interesting, and the game’s painterly art stands out. The trailer also gives players a look at the game’s world-building and novel mechanics aligned with the universe.

What is Koshmar: The Last Reverie about?

Koshmar: The Last Reverie’s visual identity is the first thing players will notice, with an art style similar to the animation of Arcane. Players play as the game’s protagonist, Violet. A small town teenager, players delve into Violet’s subconscious through her unique lucid dreaming ability.

How the player progresses through Violet’s physical world, exploring new places and meeting new characters, or approaches the nightmarish realms of those affected by the sleeping plague, will have impacts on how she perceives, and is perceived by the world in return.

But of course, that’s not all. When Violet’s nightmares break through her dreams and her reality, players must venture into the depths of the darkness and risk her sanity to protect those affected by the sleeping sickness.

  • Several variations for adrenaline-fueled action combat, through Violet’s abilities, upgrades, skills, and more.
  • Platforming & puzzle-solving against a stylish backdrop of surreal to somber settings in a completely original world.
  • Nightmare versus Dream-inspired combat style choices; will you appear as from a dream or a nightmare? Your choices could have consequences that affect the real world.
  • Multiple endings with variable factors, where player choices have an impact that shapes the world around you.
  • Replayable Nightmare Rifts, bringing roguelite moments to sharpen or dull your mental state.
