Netflix is set to release a new fantasy action series, Agent from Above, on April 2, 2026. The streamer has shared a new trailer, teaser art, and a more robust synopsis for the series ahead of the Taiwanese series’ debut.

Blending traditional Taiwanese temple culture with dynamic action and elevated visual effects, Agent from Above builds a visually striking world spanning gods, humans, and ghosts. The series is directed by Kuan Wei-chieh and stars Kai Ko, Wang Po-chieh, Hsueh Shih-ling, Buffy Chen, Johnny Yang, and Chen Yi-wen.

What is Agent From Above about?

The official synopsis from Netflix is:

Blending traditional folk beliefs with modern fantasy, Agent from Above follows Han Chieh (Kai Ko), a spirit medium bound to serve the Third Crown Prince (Wang Po-chieh) to atone for a childhood mistake by resolving supernatural disturbances in the human world. Along the way, he meets the optimistic college student Yeh Tzu (Buffy Chen) and detective Chang Min (Johnny Yang), who can see spirits.

Together, they face deadly confrontations with the mysterious and ruthless villain Chen Chi-sha (Chen Yi-wen), while uncovering the truth behind Wu Tien-chi (Hsueh Shih-ling), a being threatening the balance between the human and demon realms — leading Han Chieh to rediscover his purpose and the true meaning of his gift.

Kai Ko shared that this interpretation of the Third Crown Prince departs from traditional temple imagery via the Netflix newsroom: “In Agent from Above, he feels futuristic and even fashion-forward. From the styling to the weapons, it’s a complete reimagining. The relationship between Han Chieh and the Third Crown Prince isn’t strictly hierarchical — it’s more like mentor and student, sometimes even bickering brothers.”

Despite their intense on-screen rivalry, Chen shared that the fight sequences helped build strong camaraderie between the two actors via the same newsroom: “Kai Ko and I became friends through our fight scenes. Chen Chi-sha and Han Chieh have many battles together, so while rehearsing the choreography, we gradually grew more familiar. After filming wrapped, we were even called back to reshoot a fight scene and spent three more days on set covered in battle wounds — which only made us closer.”

Director Kuan Wei-chieh shared that the team conducted extensive field research, visiting numerous temples and speaking with spirit mediums to better understand the practices and beliefs behind the story.

“Agent from Above isn’t a completely fictional fantasy,” he explained. “It’s rooted in real Taoist beliefs and temple culture in Taiwan, which audiences here know intimately. Because of that, we couldn’t simply replicate what already exists; we had to reinterpret and recreate it.”
