Apex Legends: Breach marks the start of Apex Legends Season 28, and with the new update comes a mountain of patch notes shared by EA and Respawn. We’ve pulled together the highlights from the patch notes.
Our key takeaway? Well, Apex Legends: Breach is about to make players more creative with new additions like the Hardlight Mesh feature and updates to your favorite legends. Learn more about how the new feature will allow for more creative breaches (yes, that’s why Season 28 is called Breach) and even about the anniversary rewards in store for players in Apex Legends Season 28.
But the most interesting development comes from removing some restrictions on Bot Royale, and updates to the mode to benefit players looking to only play with their friends.
What is new in Apex Legends: Breach?
Hardlight Mesh

Apex Legends Season 28 introduces a new window-making feature, Hardlight Mesh. So what is Hardlight Mesh? Well, in addition to a cool name for a new feature, Hardlight Meshes new destructible and repairable windows that turn buildings into close-quarters battlefields. When intact, you can see through Hardlight but can’t shoot or move through it until it’s broken.
The important element of this addition is that, through destruction, it becomes an easy way to breach the enemy and take them out; and, with repair, Hardlight Meshes become a way to bolster defenses for Controllers.
While destruction seems easier, Hardlight Mastery is a new Controller class passive ability that allows Controller Legends to repair and reinforce shattered Hardlight to rebuild broken mesh and increase it beyond its original strength, adding importance to the Controller class as a balance.

Drop Zone Removed from Ranked
Developers have decided to remove Drop Zone from Ranked play in Apex Legends Season 28. This decision comes after a couple of seasons of experimenting with Drop Zones. This removal will see drop ship returning with Ranked aligning with PUBS.
Per the developer’s notes from Lead Designer Clement Bachellerie, the decision to remove Drop Zone comes with better understanding that while it addressed early game chaos to make Ranked feel more “competitive,” it also introduced new problems particualarly in the spawn,s offering significant advantages for players that swing the match’s outcome, which pushed players into an RNG “feeling.”
Bot Royale Evolved

Bot Royale changes are increasing the challenge for low to mid-skill players, while still offering a good experience for high-skill players. The game mode will now support between human squads of one to five people with other squads that feature the new Apex Bots that have tuned for mid-skilled players.
The most important improvement to the mode is that the caps on earning XP and progressing challenges is now gone, supporting more controlled experiences for players. However, earning Badges and stat earning still remain limited.
