The Sims is a franchise that allows every player to see themselves, and that hasn’t changed with The Sims 4. The latest The Sims 4 update celebrates West African culture by adding new designs and items inspired by the region. This includes new and free Build/Buy and Create a Sim items for players to explore.
In the game’s update announcement, the developers shared that they are “always exploring new ways to help players tell stories in-game that reflect their own personal lives. In partnership with the Pan African Gaming Group (PAGG), and a group of Simmers with direct connections to West African countries and lived experiences across the Black diaspora in the UK and North America, we’ve ensured every item honors the cultural traditions that inspired the release.”
If you’re unfamiliar with PAGG, the organization is a collective of African developers from across the continent. By partnering with PAGG, The Sims 4 has clearly looked to the community it aims to represent, and that extends even further by including Simmers as well. “The collaboration has been seamless and deeply fulfilling, allowing us to help shape content that honors the beauty and complexity of West African culture,” commented Maame Adjei and Kasyoka Mwanzia, PAGG, in the dev blog release.
Right now, it’s harder than ever for immigrants and for different diasporic communities, and a moment like this can mean a lot to the game’s players. For a list of what you can expect from the update, see the information below.
