We all know the meme, the little hippo putting away a pocket knife. Well, get ready to know his name, Moomintroll! During the Cozy Quest Showcase, developer Hyper Games debuted a new trailer for Moomintroll Winter’s Warmth. In this new game, players will return to Moominvalley, where Moomintroll unexpectedly wakes up from his hibernation to a land covered in frost.

Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth is the upcoming adventure game set in Tove Jansson’s Moomin universe. Jansson’s work began in 1945 with the publication of Comet in Moominland.

The Finnish author’s books have a special place in children’s literature and found new life in the age of memes thanks to Moomintroll’s expressive nature. Jansson was inducted into The Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 2016 for her work on her own books, as well as providing illustrations for other works like The Hobbit.

What is Moomintroll Winter’s Warmth?

The official synopsis from Hyoer Games is as follows:

From the creators of Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley comes a heartwarming new adventure inspired by the beloved Moomin stories by Tove Jansson. This time, join Moomintroll himself on a charming but cold winter journey.

The game is described as a story-driven, cozy puzzle adventure that lets players return to the enchanting Moominvalley. It should be noted, though, that this is not a direct sequel to Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley—which is currently 40% off on Steam. However, in a release to the press, the developers did emphasize that it is a spiritual successor, but without needing to play the duo of games in any specific order.

With the first look at the art, it’s clear how much has gone into replicating Jansson’s iconic work. The first look at images that have been shared puts an emphasis on an illustrative quality that feels pulled from Jansson’s pages.
