Netflix announced the premiere date and released the trailer for its new Indonesian horror film, The Elixir (2025), directed by Kimo Stamboel. The movie, which also goes by Abadi Nan Jaya, stars Mikha Tambayong, Eva Celia, and Donny Damara, will debut globally on the streaming platform on October 23, 2025.

The Elixir was developed and produced with Mowin Pictures serving as the Production Service Company. The film was directed by Kimo Stamboel, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Agasyah Karim and Khalid Kashogi. Edwin Nazir served as the film’s producer.

What is Netflix’s The Elixir?

The Elixir plunges audiences into a world of raw terror after a family dispute transforms into a nightmarish fight for life. The plot centers on Kenes and her family as they visit her father, Sadimin, who owns a renowned herbal medicine business, at their remote village near Yogyakarta to discuss the company’s future. Tensions are already high as Kenes, played by Mikha Tambayong, confronts her best friend, Karina (Eva Celia), over her intention to marry the patriarch.

The confrontation abruptly shifts to panic when Sadimin, after drinking his new experimental potion for eternal youth, suddenly collapses and transforms into a terrifying, undead creature—a zombie. The genre is pure horror and unrelenting suspense, which weaves Indonesian cultural elements, from traditional herbal medicine (jamu) to zombies with distinct local characteristics, into a familiar family drama backdrop.
