Madden NFL 26, like any EA Sports title, is all about the Title Updates that roll out after launch. The first Madden 26 Title Update kicked off today, and the development team shared what players can expect in their Gridiron Notes dev blog. We’ve pulled together the highlights from the Madden 26 Title Update. If you want to read them all, you can head to the EA Sports dev blog here.
If you’ve been playing Madden 26, then zone coverage and quirky franchise elements have been on your mind. The first Madden 26 Title Update primarily focuses on stability updates with various zone coverage improvements. However, outside of updating existing systems, this September’s Title Update also introduces Nike Rivalries to Madden NFL 26.
Nike Rivalries Arrives in the first Madden 26 Title Update
With Nike Rivalries, Nike is partnering with NFL teams to celebrate football’s most storied rivalries, aiming to bring a competitive and authentic sense of community to the game.
For four years, Nike will highlight two divisions and outfit their teams with custom uniforms that represent their cities in Madden NFL. For 2026, the AFC East and NFC West are in the spotlight, giving players the opportunity to wear these new uniforms.
September Title Update: Zone Blocking
One of the non-coverage play-calls updates involves the post-play animations. The developers have addressed a post-play animation defect where a defender would perform “read steps” when standing in place after the whistle. And now, here’s the main course.
- Cover 2 Tampa: The middle defender now gets deeper, maintaining better leverage position against deep threats, especially vs. 3×1 formations.
- Cover 2 Hard Flats: For those looking to stop flats, the devs have addressed an issue with Hard Flats where defenders were dropping too deep and too far inside before reacting to the route. Defenders now drop more accurately with their zone responsibilities.
- Cover 3 Match: Logic improvements for Defenders when reacting to Slot WRs attempting to outleverage the defense on deep routes. (includes Buzz Mable and Zone Blitz 3)
- Cover 6 & Cover 4 Palms: Fixed an issue where Outside Quarters CBs in Cover 6 and Cover 4 Palms were oftentimes losing the press, giving up easy touchdowns. Additionally, the devs also adjusted the CBs’ alignment so that they won’t continue to press the WR.
