Square Enix and Capcom unveiled a major collaboration between their hit titles, Final Fantasy XIV Online (FF14) and Monster Hunter Wilds, during Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2025. The crossover event brings new content to both games, with the first details revealed by FF14 Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida and Monster Hunter Wilds Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto.
With both games looking for new ways to ignite player excitement, this collaboration couldn’t have come at a better time.
In Final Fantasy XIV
This isn’t the first time that Capcom and Square Enix have teamed up in Final Fantasy XIV; previously, a Monster Hunter event brought Rathalos to the game, pushing players to abide by Monster Hunter mechanics to complete the Hunt.
Now, FF14 will receive collaboration content in early October, with the arrival of the Guardian Arkveld. The event sets a new challenge for the Warriors of Light, bringing the popular monster from the world of Monster Hunter into Eorzea.
About the game’s latest expansion, our critic said, “Following up a world-shattering saga is hard for any story, but with Dawntrail, Yoshida and his team have hit a reset button. In doing so, you need to build a new world, weave in new characters to fall in love with, and start the next chapter of what they want FF14 to be. That is a lot of weight to carry, and it’s nearly perfect. The Dawntrail MSQ offers levity and depth. The duties push players without leaving them entirely behind because of difficulty.”

The collaboration between Square Enix and Capcom will first arrive in Monster Hunter Wilds in late September. Players can look forward to new content, including the Omega Planetes monster and the ability to ride a Chocobo instead of their usual Seikret companion.
In our review of the game, our critic said, “The game starts with big hunts and breathtaking action scenes. By the end of the story and beyond, you’ll be hunting even larger monsters with impossibly larger attacks, harvesting materials from their bodies to make stronger weapons and tougher armor.”
