Like the other games from EA Sports, EA Sports FC 26 is rolling out large changes. Chief among those updates to the FC franchise is the brand new Archetype system, which takes inspiration from the College Football series of games. Releasing their first Pitch Notes, EA Sports FC 26 Archetypes are starting a whole new chapter for the soccer game, allowing you to redefine your Pro in FC 26 Clubs.

The brand-new FC 26 Archetype progression system will allow users to unlock, develop, and customize their Pro player like never before. In the Pitch Notes, EA Sports shared the basic structure of the FC 26 Archetype system, which boasts 13 distinct Archetypes, each inspired by a legendary footballer. More importantly, the new system allows you to have more control over your playstyle like never before.

Before we jump into the 13 specific Archetypes, there are some basic parameters each one has. To start, each of the FC 26 Archetypes has unique minimum and maximum attribute values, along with specific ranges for Weak Foot and Skill Moves. Additionally, they have specific height and weight ranges. Adjusting within these ranges has a minor impact on a few attributes during matches.

Here’s everything that you need to know about FC 26  Archetypes. If you’d like more information about other gam elements, read the full Putch Notes here.

FC 26 Archetypes Offer Customization

FC 26 Archetype progression image

Upon entering Clubs for the first time, users will select their initial Archetype. But don’t worry, as users keep playing, they will be able to obtain the remaining 12 Archetypes using Clubs Coins, FC Points, or Archetype Unlock consumable items found as rewards.

Archetypes also interact with specific Signature PlayStyles, each specific to their respective FC 26 Archetypes. Each of them comes with a Signature PlayStyle automatically unlocked and equipped. They upgrade to PlayStyle+ as you progress. While fixed, you can swap them for a different PlayStyle+ once you unlock a Specialization.

While FC 26 Archetypes will push users into specific ways to play, users will also be able to gain additional slots to customize with new PlayStyles as you progress, allowing you to assign any PlayStyle as long as your Archetype meets the necessary Attribute Unlock Requirements. When it comes to unlocking new slots, each PlayStyle has specific attribute requirements that must be met to equip it.

Four specific Key Attributes complement each Archetype’s playstyle. They cost less AP to upgrade, making development more efficient. And if that isn’t enough customization, Specializations introduce three unique variants for each Archetype, allowing you to either break the mold or become an elite version of your chosen Archetype.

Each of the Specializations can be upgraded with specific attributes to the required value. Unlocking a Specialization grants an extra Signature Perk and an additional Signature PlayStyle+ that can be assigned to one of your Archetype’s Signature PlayStyle slots. For instance, transforming your Maestro into a Crasher grants First Touch+ and the Box Crash Perk. Still, you can only equip one Specialization at a time, so keep that in mind.

FC 26 Archetype’s Signature Perks are new on-pitch abilities designed to help you embody your chosen Archetype or Specialization. Each Archetype comes with two Signature Perks unlocked through progression, with a third equipped when a Specialization is active.

These can be activated after performing a specific action, providing a temporary attribute boost. At the same time, some triggers occur when using a certain control or technique. And finally, Team-focused perks will benefit your teammates.

Forward Archetypes

  • Magician: This Archetype is for players who combine “remarkable control, dribbling, and vision. To put it simply, they create chances where there are none, both to score themselves and to help their teammates. Signature playstyles include Technical and Finesse Shot.
  • Finisher: If you watch Blue Lock, well, the Finisher would be the Striker. These players possess a “killer instinct” in front of the goal and best keepers one-on-one. Signature playstyles include Low Driven Shot and First Touch.
  • Target: This is the most classic of the FC 26 Archetypes. These are your classic “hold-up” players who use their physicality to win duels both on the ground and in the air. Signature playstyles include Power Shot and Precision Header.

Midfielder Archetypes

  • Recycler: These are the passing machines, critical to taking the ball from the backline and passing it to the most dangerous attackers. Signature playstyles include Press Proven and Intercept.
  • Maestro: This FC 26 Archetype is all about orchestrating games from deep, focused on unlocking a defence to create chances. Signature playstyles include Tiki Taka and Pinged Pass.
  • Creator: These players will be capable of delivering precise and incisive passes that take out opposing backlines. Signature playstyles include Incisive Pass and Inventive Pass.
  • Spark: Spark players excel in short, explosive bursts, getting to the byline and pulling back crosses for the team. Signature playstyles include Rapid and Trickster.

Defender:

  • Progresser: This is a modern center-back that is capable of stepping out of the backline to start attacks. Signature playstyles include Long Ball Pass and Anticipate.
  • Boss: This player wins because of their physicality and is willing to put their body on the line. Signature playstyles include Long Ball Pass and Anticipate.
  • Engine: Just like the name entails, these players just don’t get gassed easily. Their incredible stamina allows them to maintain maximum effort throughout the match. Signature playstyles include Jockey and Relentless.
  • Marauder: This is your defensive specialist, whose pace means that both comfortable and effective going forward. Signature playstyles include Whipped Pass and Quick Step.

Goalkeeper

  • Shot Stopper: These keepers are unfazed with one-on-ones and are the ones to rely on for difficult saves. Signature playstyles include Footwork and Far Reach.
  • Sweeper Keeper: This player is a modern-day keeper who is actually comfortable with the ball at their feet and pushing far into the defensive line. Signature playstyles include Cross Claimer and 1v1 Close Down.

FC 26 Archetype Brings Depth To Progression

EA Sports FC 26 promotional still from the trailer

At launch, Archetypes can progress from level 1 to level 50. Users will be able to progress by earning Archetype XP (AXP) through Clubs matches in EA Sports FC 26. Additionally, users can expect the maximum level to increase throughout the season, providing more opportunities to upgrade and personalize their favorite Archetypes.

When it comes to earning AXP, your Role Rating heavily influences those earnings, with higher ratings yielding better rewards as you keep playing. But it’s not just about winning. Every action you complete in a match provides a small amount of AXP.

Additionally, AXP earnings vary based on whether you’re playing a Clubs League, Playoffs, Friendly, Drop-In, Clubs Rush, or Live Event match. This allows the AXP to adjust to the intensity of the matches you play. And that also includes Skill Games, even if the weekly earnings are limited for those.

Consumables offer another path to FC 26Archetype progression outside of matches and Skill Games, helping players catch up later in the game’s lifecycle. Users will be able to unlock Consumables through Season Pass rewards, objective rewards, or the Clubs Store. Consumables will focus on the following:

  • AXP Multipliers: Boost AXP match rewards for a set number of matches.
  • Direct Apply AXP: Instantly grant AXP to your active Archetype (only usable on Archetypes below a predefined level to maintain balance).
  • Archetype Unlocks: Obtain any locked Archetype via the Archetypes Screen.
  • Archetype Resets: Return spent Attribute Points to your wallet, allowing for redistribution.

With 12 FC 26 Archetypes, it’s important to note that they don’t all progress at the same time. Instead, each Archetype progresses individually, which promises to increase replayability. Even if you play just one position, the Archetypes allow you to explore different paths for your Pro.

As your Archetype progresses, you’ll unlock powerful upgrades:

  • Attribute Points (AP): Spend AP to boost your attributes, getting closer to unlocking more PlayStyles or Specializations.
  • Signature PlayStyles Upgrades: Each Signature PlayStyle upgrades to a PlayStyle+, maximizing your Archetype’s on-pitch power.
  • Unlock Signature Perks: Gain extra Signature Perks to make your Archetype truly stand out.
  • Customizable PlayStyles Slots: Earn additional slots to personalize your Archetype’s PlayStyles further.

EA Sports FC 26 will release on September 26, 2025, on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Amazon Luna, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
