Battlefield 6 revealed its multiplayer, but it’s not just about the nine maps that it will launch with; multiplayer also includes a creation mode. The Battlefield 6 Portal is equipped with a spatial editor that allows players to push map-making to the extreme.
In our preview of Battlefield 6 multiplayer, we said: “If you’re a veteran Battlefield player or someone just looking for a new FPS to push others in the space, Battlefield 6 multiplayer is that. The teams at Battlefield Studios, Criterion, DICE, Motive, and Ripple Effect have crafted a multiplayer experience that remembers what made the franchise one of the tentpoles of the genre, but also adapted to meet players where they are right now. Now, they just need to stick the landing. ”
What can players do with the Battlefield 6 Portal Update?
The Portal gives players the ability to spatially edit play spaces and move around existing set pieces on the maps. In the reveal video, audiences were shown a vertical bridge with helicaptors crashing and debris cascading down the bridge. While map editing has been in the space since Halo Forge, to put it into a game that is so dependent on physics and trajectories is ambitious.
Still, this Portal update is giving creators more agency and feeding the creative need to create content consistently. Outside of the obvious ways that this benefits content creators, it also allows players of any kind to challenge their friends, build new and different things, and embrace Battlefield 6 multiplayer to the fullest. If done right, it can give audiences a stake in the game’s world that can only get deeper as continued support is rolled out.
More importantly, every experience that players create in the Battlefield 6 Portal will be made available to the larger community of players in the Community section of the menu. But the most important thing about the Portal update is that those who prefer Portal more than the other Battlefield 6 multiplayer experiences, the developers also announced that anything made in Portal’s Verified Mode will be eligible for full progression for weapons and Battle Pass.
What to Expect from Battlefield 6 Community Experiences
In a release to the press, the Battlefield 6 team shared the following examples of what community experiences will look like once players begin using the Portal.
- Horde Mode! Or, something that resembles it. In this mode, players will have to survive rounds against waves of “aggressive” enemy AI after players buy weapons from a “Buy Screen.”
- An arcade-style puzzle mode experience.
- “Verified Community Version” of Battlefield 6’s Conquest game mode, where the player has turned off vehicle spawning.
- A community experience in the style of a classic top-down 2-D shooter
- An experience that pushes players to climb to higher heights, built with Portal’s spatial editing tool that adapts one of the existing Battlefield 6 multiplayer maps.
Wait, there will be a Server Browser
During the Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal event, the developers also announced that a server browser will be a highlighted Community option. It will also be elevated often in Featured playlists, which are incorporated into the main menu, and will allow players to find the experiences that others create easily.
