REVIEW: ‘Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion’ Issue 1

Ultimate Spider-Man Incursion Issue 1 is published by Marvel Comics. Written by Deniz Camp and Cody Ziglar, with art by Jonas Scharf, colors by Edgar Delgado and letters by Cory Petit.

In Ultimate Spider-Man Incursion Issue 1, Miles Morales is plunged into the new Ultimate Universe to rescue his baby sister. The start of a journey across a new universe, Ziglar and Camp waste no time getting there. In a few pages, Spider-Man and his sister, Billie, are thrown into the Ultimate Universe, in different places. This provides incentive to explore. Ultimate Spider-Man Incursion Issue 1 starts small, but even that has an enormous scale. The figureheads show themselves, but ultimately, the comic begins with two Spider-Men and a Venom.

The confusion Miles feels slows the book down slightly because Peter Parker and his son of this world are dragging him down by asking questions. This shows how big and spacious this world is and how hard it will be to find his sister. However, the reader gets a better understanding of what’s coming as the structure jumps around the world and starts involving others. A slight knowledge of the ongoing Ultimate Universe may be needed, as this recruiter wasn’t aware of all the characters. But Miles doesn’t know them either, so readers can be in the same boat.

The characters and the dialogue are both humorous and exciting. There are three spider characters included in Ultimate Spider-Man Incursion Issue 1. Miles understood the multiverse and took the new world in his stride. It’s funny to see how dismissive he is, just accepting the new world without trying to get involved. Ultimate Spider-Man Incursion Issue 1 demonstrates just how much the young Spider-Man has grown. He would usually be in complete awe, wanting to understand everything. But he has a mission to save his sister, which makes him more curt and desperate to move.

The comedy comes from Peter and Richard Parker. This is their first experience with visitors from other worlds, and their excitement is amazing fun. This is a reminder of how new all of this is, and how early we still are in the birth of superhumans on this Earth. They don’t all have code names yet. The first villain we see, a counterpart of The Spot, is disturbing and somewhat pathetic, but he isn’t even called The Spot yet. There are glimpses of other important figures, and we are reminded of how dangerous and vicious this world can be.

The art has a lot to love. The differences in these characters become clearer when they are next to heroes from the main universe. Their costumes are highly technological in nature, featuring moving lenses in the eyepieces and other advanced features. The Spot has turned into a terrifying design by Scharf. He’s tall and thin, with a haunting facial expression. There’s a touch of the Slenderman about him. In this issue, there is a conveyor belt of the lead characters of each faction. They all look fierce and frightening.

The fight scenes are also terrific. The speed and the ferocity of the punches reveal just how much of a rush Spider-Man is in. The one negative comes in the physique of all the Spider characters. They look muscular, as they should, but the proportions are slightly odd, and they also end up being lumpy. There is a huge amount of detail in a small area, and it doesn’t seem right with these costumes. It’s an example of what happens when artists change, and the heroes have to be approached by someone new.

The colors have a fantastic range and contrast. There is a mixture of spider suits. Spider-Man is a classic red and blue, Richard is all black, and Miles is a mixture of the two. But there’s another side to Miles, his signature part that none of the others have. When he uses his electrical powers, it’s exhilarating every time. The Spot is purely black and white, which adds to his eerie quality. The lettering is standardized to a single font for the entire Ultimate Universe, creating consistency.

Ultimate Spider-Man Incursion Issue 1 is a great exploration and catch-up. The universe and its various series have felt disconnected from each other because they are rightly invested in telling their own stories. But this journey will involve them all. It’s great for readers who follow every issue to see them brought together, and it also shows newer readers what’s been happening.

Miles has grown significantly since leaving the last Ultimate Universe and is the perfect representative to be thrown into the new world. Camp and Ziglar are also a great combination of writers, as they merge the Ultimates series with Miles Morales. They also know these characters better than anyone, which makes them genuine and authentic.

Ultimate Spider-Man Incursion Issue 1 is available where comics are sold.

Ninja Gaiden 4: The Two Masters is a good DLC that offers a decent amount of content, despite its incredibly short length and lackluster narrative.
