Fresh off its reveal at Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition, Relooted is set to bring a unique Africanfuturist heist experience to PC and Xbox. Developed by South African studio Nyamakop, known for their debut title Semblance, this upcoming game tasks players with planning, executing, and parkouring their way to reclaiming real-life looted African artifacts from Western museums.

Set near the end of the 21st century, Relooted’s narrative kicks off after the failure of the Transatlantic Returns Treaty, which was meant to see African artifacts repatriated. Museums, however, found and exploited a loophole, leaving players to take a “stealthier form of diplomacy” to get these culturally, historically, and spiritually significant items back where they belong. There are 70 real-life artifacts to “reloot” in total.

It all starts with a troublesome little brother in Relooted. In the game, you play as Nomali, where you will meet more reliable crew members from different African countries. Recruit people from the classic hacker to even your prim and proper grandma.

Players will assemble a diverse crew from various African countries, each bringing unique skillsets to the table. The gameplay loop involves casing the target, getting in, getting out with parkour-style movement, and securing the artifact for its rightful return.

Relooted’s Key Features Embrace The Heist Genre

  • Pull Off Heists: Strategically plan your escape routes, solve puzzles, and position your teammates. Once ready, grab the artifact and make your getaway using protagonist Nomali’s flow-based parkour abilities.
  • Recruit a Crew: Meet and gradually build your team by recruiting members, each with distinct abilities crucial for successful operations.
  • Explore an Africanfuturist Setting: Dive into a future vision of Johannesburg, with your hideout nestled within this reimagined South African city.
  • Reclaim Real Artifacts: Your mission involves recovering 70 actual artifacts, all of which hold immense cultural, historical, and spiritual significance to the communities from which they were taken.

When Relooted launches on PC and consoles, prepare to return those artifacts where they belong. In the meantime, you can wishlist the game here.
