DanDaDan has hit its stride, with fans and critics alike loving the series. With weird adventures, emotional beats, and just a dash of burgeoning love, the series’ gorgeous visuals and quirky cast seem unstoppable. As we approach the end of season one, many fans may wonder what’s next for Momo and Okarun. Well, let’s tell you what to expect from DanDaDan Season 2 – with the manga as the foundation.
To speculate what DanDaDan Season 2 will take on, we spoil chapters 28-62 of the manga.
DanDaDan Season 2 takes on the Cursed House Arc
Momo, Okarun, and Turbo Granny go to Jiji’s house to help him confront the spirit that seems to be stalking him. They discover that his landlords have been sacrificing their tenants to what they believe is a god who keeps the volcano their town is built on dormant.
If the anime keeps true to the manga, this arc is going to deliver what is likely to be the season’s biggest stumble for many right out of the gate. Upon reaching Jiji’s town, Momo goes off on her own to visit the town’s hot springs. Not realizing she is in a mixed-gender spring, she soon finds herself confronted by a group of middle-aged men looking to take liberties with her.
This moment is fairly problematic as is, but making it even worse is that the narrative bakes up a weak excuse for why Momo can’t simply use her powers to remove the threat. It turns out the heat from the spring makes Momo light-headed, causing her to lose the ability to focus her powers. While she is saved before anything physical occurs, it’s still an unnecessary moment for the show.
Once DanDaDan Season 1 clears this hurdle, the rest of the Cursed House Arc promises to deliver the stylish action fans have come to expect, though on an increased scale. When our trio of heroes discovers the “god’ the people have been worshipping is a giant Mongolian Death Worm, they become trapped in its underground lair beneath the town. Making matters worse, the worm emits psychic waves that compel Momo and Okarun to try to kill themselves. This leaves Jiji with the hard task of keeping his friends safe from both the worm and themselves.
The group is saved by the spirit following Jiji, who incidentally cancels out the suicide waves with ones of his own. The spirit then shows Jiji his past to compel the boy to help free his trapped body deep in the worm’s lair.
The flashback sequence that is sure to follow is likely going to hit with the same power as Acro Silky’s did this season. Unlike Silky’s, however, this sequence is followed up not with a tearful moment of kindness but with Jiji being possessed by the evil eye.
The presence of the Evil Eye creates even more problems for the group as Okarun is forced to fight it, taking him away from the battle with the worm. Okarun’s stand against the Eye leaves him trapped underground, his only hope being a rescue from Momo before he is killed by lava that has begun to fill the chamber.
On the surface, Momo manages to defeat the Worm and use it as a fire hose to slow the spread of fires from the volcanic eruption that occurs during the battle. However, once the fire is out, she, along with Seiko Ayase’s pupil and the leader of the snake worshippers, are forced to join forces to fend off the Evil Eye, who has escaped the underground and now threatens them. While their combined strength isn’t enough, a last-minute save from several allies, including Seiko, manages to capture the Evil Eye and allows Momo to lead a rescue mission to save Okarun, still trapped underground.
Momo And Okarun’s Growing Feelings
Throughout both the arcs we’re about to get into, DanDaDan Season 2 will continue to grow the feelings between its two leads slowly. Near deaths on the part of both characters work to force the pair to become ever more mindful of their feelings. However, both still find themselves unable to address the emotional elephant in the room directly.
Can the series start the Evil Eye Arc?
While the group can trap the Evil Eye temporarily, it’s clear that a more permanent solution is required. While Seiko considers exorcism, complete with a heavy metal-themed band to help drive out the Eye, Jiji is against it. He feels sympathy for the Evil Eye and promises it they’ll play together.
With Seiko swayed, the group struggles to find an alternative to keeping the Eye in check. They need to think fast as Jiji’s accidental transformations quickly result in the Ayase home being ruined. His transformations, triggered whenever he is exposed to water, wreak havoc on the group. However, a permanent solution will eventually be found, thanks to Okarun.
During this story, Okarun strives to increase his strength with Turbo Granny’s help after a close call with the Evil Eye, which nearly kills Momo, and Momo ends up getting a job at a maid cafe. Of course, her friends make it a point to take Okarun there, with embarrassing results.
These are the arcs that fans can be confident will come when DanDaDan returns in its second season. Of course, even more could be on the way, depending on how the series moves out the arcs. We’ll have to wait and see for DanDaDan Season 2.
