The anime romance genre has always been full of heartfelt and sometimes heartbreaking stories. Many romance anime series have their own charm that makes them stand out and remain memorable. However, at least one occasionally comes along and elevates the romance genre. Sign of Affection is that romance anime of 2024. The show’s beautiful depiction of relationships through a slightly more mature and grounded lens of love helped capture many fans’ attention and hearts during the 2024 Spring season.

A Sign of Affection is an anime adaptation of Suu Morishita’s popular shōjo manga. The anime adapts the heartfelt journey and evolving relationship of Yuki Itose, a deaf college student, and Itsuomi Nagi, a charming world traveler and upperclassman.

Many shōjo romance anime rely on familiar tropes such as, complicated love triangles, melodramatic misunderstandings, or overly idealized characters. In contrast, A Sign of Affection takes a more grounded and layered approach.
