Having defeated the hoards of Demons that were invading Earth, things have largely returned to normal. Or, at least, as normal as things ever are for the kids of Faction 60. With a new classmate looking to make a splash at their school, it looks like a whole new series of adventures await Wang Ling, Sun Rong, Froggy 2, and the rest of their friends in The Daily Life of the Immortal King Season 3.
Much like the preceding two seasons, this year’s 12 episodes begin with what seems like loosely joined stories that eventually come together in the series’ final episodes to reveal a larger narrative confrontation for the group to face. But The Daily Life of the Immortal King Season 3 takes this formula one step further by providing a surprisingly large plot twist I never saw coming that brings the season together in a finale that is almost as touching as the first season’s perfect ending. Despite the high praise I have for how well the end of this season lands, that isn’t even the high point of the show’s emotional delivery. That moment comes earlier when one of the show’s long-running sub-plots comes to a head. That’s Zhou Yu and his status as the region’s greatest hero.
Always believing that he has vanquished many foes over the series run, including his legendary defeat of Froggy in the demon’s original invasion, this season brings the arc to a close in a special way. The final moments where the plot closes between him and Ling are truly special and do a great job of giving credit where it is so rightly due, no matter what history says.
But while the emotional moments of this show are always welcome, it is the comedy that consistently makes it one of my most anticipated series each year. And this year is easily the funniest the show has been yet. While all the sight gags and mishaps that have colored the series are still present here, The Daily Life of the Immortal King Season 3 takes the plunge into parody and manages a perfect entry. With franchises like Pokemon, Godzilla, and others getting humorous homages this season, the show does a great job of displaying a new versatility in its comedy delivery.
The animation throughout this season brings the series’ charm and adventure to life. The moments of action are as fun as ever, and the comedy continues to be elevated thanks to Pb Animation‘s continued care and excellence in its approach to this series.
Just when I thought I couldn’t love this goofy, lighthearted show anymore, The Daily Life of the Immortal King Season 3 proved to me that the series still has a lot to surprise me with. I am again left eagerly waiting for my next chance to visit Faction 60 to see what the gang will be up to next.
