Extraordinary-Attorney-Woo-Episode-5

Extraordinary Attorney Woo is a Korean legal drama series streaming on Netflix. With several cases behind her now, Young Woo is finding her place at Habada. But a pair of tricky cases are coming that will test her knowledge of the law and her willingness to compromise her morality in  Extraordinary Attorney Woo Episodes 5-6.

With its lead character and supporting cast firmly established, the two latest entries in this series begin to dive into the nuances of courtroom trials. The first of these episodes deal with issues surrounding patent ownership.

This episode manages to include a lot of interesting elements into its narrative. Despite being noticeably shorter than the previous entries in the series, nothing feels rushed during the hour-long story. The biggest focus of this episode is the motivations and pressures that can affect lawyers outside of simply upholding the law.

With Young Woo finding herself assigned to this case with the less than welcoming Min Woo, she quickly learns how difficult trying a case can be when her partner isn’t interested in helping. Seeing Young Woo as the competition rather than a teammate, Min Woo does everything he can to undermine her position in the trial. This pushes Young Woo to consider doing things she normally wouldn’t present herself as an important part of the team.

Through this setup, this episode asks some hard questions about lawyers and where their allegiances should lie. Should they do whatever they can within the confines of the law to win a case for their client or should they not attempt to work loopholes in the system when it will keep the truth from coming out. These struggles are a challenge for Young Woo to grapple with as she strives to find the balance between being a good attorney and a good person.

Aside from the main plot in this episode, the show also delivers a side element involving Young Woo and a truth-telling game she becomes a bit fixated on. This leads to an unfortunate incident involving her dad and a customer at his restaurant. It is one of the more painful moments in the show thus far. While the incident isn’t the biggest deal on the surface, given who it involves, the pain it causes becomes far more poignant.

The second episode in Extraordinary Attorney Woo Episodes 5-6 sees Young Woo and Soo Yeon defend a woman charged with assaulting someone during an attempted robbery five years ago.

This case delivers a one-two punch of emotional storytelling and a look at how personal bias can color courtroom proceedings. The dual focus comes together well to deliver an impactful narrative that keeps the viewer engaged throughout. Woo and Yeon each deliver some great moments as they passionately strive to defend their client.

A secondary element of this story that is easy to overlook but I feel is excellently executed is the part that Myung Seok plays during this episode. As he oversees the duo’s efforts, he never fails to be a steadying hand that frequently highlights the best qualities of leadership. Possibly the episode’s stand-out moment is one that truly builds his character as both a consummate professional as well as a great boss.

When all is said and done, Extraordinary Attorney Woo Episodes 5-6 continue to craft great stories that examine the highs and lows of legal practice while also building up its core cast.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo Episodes 5-6 are streaming now on Netflix with a new episode dropping each Wednesday and Thursday.
