Persona 5 The Phantom X, the gacha role-playing spinoff of the beloved Persona series, dropped its latest update, 2.3. It’s packed full of content, including the latest story chapter, a change to its gacha contract system, and a new physical character, on top of other additions.
The latest story chapter, called “Unconditional Love,” has been a turning point for the game so far. While the first two chapters had plenty to love, they also garnered criticism for not totally grabbing the quality of the main series. That all changed with “Unconditional Love,” focusing on the new group of Phantom Thieves dealing with rumors, a teacher they look up to suffering, and a palace with two rulers.
“Unconditional Love” brings new challenges and changes to the contract system to Persona 5 The Phantom X.

Update 2.3 continues the story, previously left on a brutal cliffhanger. “Unconditional Love” manages to recapture the magic of the base series, intertwining character drama, systemic issues, and weaving in the destructive power of social media. Persona, as a series, at its best, is able to tap into the zeitgeist of the cultural moment as it is. “Unconditional Love” hits at a time when the rise of AI and the use of social media as a weapon to embolden the rich and powerful are timely in their themes and delivery.
Alongside the story, “Unconditional Love” Phase 2 brings a host of new challenges, mostly focused on continuing the story and exploring the new area introduced in Phase 1, Kichioji. Completing these ultimately rewards Wonder with Cu Chulainn, a rank 7 Persona focused on physical damage, and enough seals for a few boosts, along with Gecko Coins for weapon purchases.
Another major change in 2.3 is the highly requested targeted contract system. Previously, pulling on a new character banner rewarded a 5-star character at 80 pulls. While you could target specific characters to raise chances, you could also lose out entirely.
The new targeted system lets players guarantee their pulls.

This would lead players to possibly needing to pull 160 times for a new character. The new targeted system lets players choose to raise the pull target to 110, but also guarantees the targeted character with extra rewards at 165 pulls.
The targeted contract system has been introduced earlier than it was in its Asian counterparts and offers a welcome change that’s been highly requested from the community. It takes the guesswork out of the equation, letting players choose between a higher guaranteed target or rolling for luck on the chance contracts.
Kira Kitazato, codename Messa, is the newest character added in 2.3. Messa is a physical attacker, focusing on single-target damage and damage over time. He can apply the Bleed status, dealing damage to the affected enemy every turn, while also dealing more damage with more Bleed stacks.
Persona 5 The Phantom X’s 2.3 update adds a new character, Kira Kitazato, AKA Messa.

Messa can also switch between Doctor mode and Ripper mode, with Doctor adding on Bleed stacks, while Ripper cranking out huge hits by removing the Bleed stacks. Kira’s synergy bond has also been added, letting the player get close to the arcade-loving doctor.
There’s even more in 2.3, including new areas in Mementos, login bonuses, city life updates, and more. It’s a great time to hop in and catch up with the story ahead of the continuation of the story, with more “Unconditional Love” to come over the coming weeks.
Persona 5: The Phantom X is available now on Android, iOS, and PC.
