Last time on Wonder Egg Priority, viewers spent time with Kawai Rika as the focal character. As you know, Rika was introduced in episode 3 as a brash character. However, it quickly became apparent that she had hidden depths and a lot of pain. This included a history of self-harm undercut by her past struggles as an idol. Last week’s episode, Episode 7, “After School at 14”, dealt with Rika’s home life, exploring why Rika behaves the way she does, successfully developing her character past the facade of a “cheerful” teenager.

Wonder Egg Priority Episode 8, “The Happy Friendship Plan”, is not a typical episode. Instead, episode 8 is a recap episode. Naturally, it covers the events of the entire series up until now.

Normally, I’m not a fan of recap episodes. I said as much in my coverage of The Promised Neverland Season 2’s recent recap episode, which I found unnecessary given the pace of the current season. However, in the case of Wonder Egg Priority, I found that being able to go back to the beginning from the perspective of Acca and Ura-Acca interesting. They’re entertaining narrators who give witty and keen insight into the egg-users and the dream world they fight in.

Truth be told, Wonder Egg Priority Episode 8 actually felt necessary. Wonder Egg Priority tends to pack a lot into its 22-minute episodes. Upfront, this means that there’s lots of rewatch value. However, it also means that busy viewers might miss some details as they watch. Thankfully, Acca and Ura-Acca are here to break down the plot into a very digestible 22 minutes.

That digestibility is actually the biggest perk of Wonder Egg Priority Episode 8. It outlines a lot of the Egg World’s rules. Rules that I, personally, missed or forgot in my enthusiasm about the show. It also gives us some tidbits about the girls that help flesh out the show further. I also liked being able to see the path of each girl in sequence, especially ahead of episode 9.

Overall, Wonder Egg Priority Episode 8 is, for me, the rare good recap episode. In large because well… it’s actually quite informative. In fact, Wonder Egg Priority Episode 8 reminded me of a lot of critical plot points, and also connected everything we know about Ai, Neiru, Rika, and Momoe together in a bullet point list that’s helpful going into the final arc of this show.

Once again, if you’re not already following Wonder Egg Priority, I implore you to consider adding it to your end-of-season watchlist. However, don’t start with Wonder Egg Priority Episode 8, as it contains massive spoilers for all the episodes to date. Instead, go back to Wonder Egg Priority Episode 1 and enjoy the series from the beginning.

And while it’s true that you can always catch up on series in slower seasons, I really do think there’s something special about watching Wonder Egg Priority on a week-to-week basis. Watch with caution, and be sure you’re in a place to handle the show’s difficult imagery: there’s no need to risk your own health for a series.

That being said, if you’ve been on the fence, I think there’s a lot of healing to be found in Wonder Egg Priority’s message, and highly suggest jumping on board with it as soon as you can. I get the feeling that the end of this series is going to be bombastic. You’re not going to want to miss out.

Wonder Egg Priority is streaming now on Funimation.

Wonder Egg Priority Episode 8 - "The Happy Friendship Plan"

TL;DR

Once again, if you’re not already following Wonder Egg Priority, I implore you to consider adding it to your end-of-season watchlist. However, don’t start with Wonder Egg Priority Episode 8, as it contains massive spoilers for all the episodes to date. Instead, go back to Wonder Egg Priority Episode 1 and enjoy the series from the beginning.
