Rust is easily the first game you think about when you think about survival video games. And now, Rust is going handheld with the announcement that Rust Mobile is beginning its Beta on December 11, 2025.
Level Infinite, the title’s publisher, will be running the beta from December 11 through December 31, 2025. Additionally, registration is open now, and pre-download will begin on December 9, 2025.
While mobile games have long been stigmatized in the United States, in terms of both game type and audience, they are now drawing the attention they deserve. And Rust Mobile is meeting that when it launches as a free-to-play title. But for now, it’s starting its first closed beta.
What is Rust Mobile?

Rust Mobile looks to deliver the same signature gameplay that players have come to expect. Gather resources, craft build bases, and battle environmental threats and rival players in an open world.
Outside of that, the mobile version introduces streamlined controls, improved onboarding, and other mobile-friendly enhancements that aim to ease play on mobile devices while hoping to remain the same game players know and love.

What is new in this Closed Beta?

The first Closed Beta introduces a variety of significant updates and gameplay options not previously available, with system updates adding a 30 percent-expanded world map, new points of interest like Train Station and Bandit Camp, new weapons, improved buildings, social progression, and scenario events.
But the most important of these is the inclusion of four new modes: Hardcore, Standard, Softcore, and Territory Clash. You can read the description of these modes as provided by the developer here:
- Hardcore Mode: The raw, authentic Rust experience. Play Rust anytime, anywhere — a brutal, adrenaline-packed playground for real adventurers.
- Standard Mode: A more balanced Rust experience featuring the brand-new Scripted Mode, classic PvP and PvE survival, and the time-limited Territory Clash event.
- Softcore Mode: A lower-pressure match environment offering raid protection and reduced death penalties, giving players room for deeper strategic planning.
- Territory Clash: A fast-paced, 15-minute 4v6 asymmetric PvP mode delivering a pure, high-intensity base offense-and-defense experience.
For more information on the updates coming in the closed beta, players can check out the Developer Blog here.
Will progress be wiped?

According to Level Infinite, progress will be wiped after the Closed Beta concludes on December 31, 2025. This first beta test focuses on technical requirements, regional feedback, player registration, replayability, and gameplay. However, players will not be able to keep their progress for future beta or 1.0 play-throughs.
How do I register for the beta?
The beta test will be available in select regions across North America, Europe, and Asia with support for multiple languages. Players can begin to register now via the official Rust Mobile website to join the whitelist.
What is the release date?
Rust Mobile will launch on iOS and Android; however, a release date has not been announced.
