Sunraku pays some dues in Shangri-La Frontier Season 2 Episode 3 as his past catches up with him. “Accelerating Meetings, Surging Desire, and the Start of Various Threads” is one big reunion with the biggest meetup in the whole series so far. Finally, one of the cutest and most wholesome characters is back, Psyger-0/Rei Saiga! Pencilgon explains to everyone from her group that Wolfgang has invited the Schwarz Vulf clan, the Library clan, and the SF Zoo clan to ask all the questions they want to ask. This is shocking to Sunraku since he typically keeps as much information as he can a secret. The episode ends with everyone sharing some knowledge and insight, but also with a shocking question.

Pencilgon’s sole question is if they would all form a clan alliance. To which everyone is too stunned to answer. Shangri-La Frontier Season 2 Episode 3 is a nice balance of cute dialogue and animation, along with vital information for character development and lore building. The biggest drop of info was the full breakdown of the Library clan’s knowledge of all the unique monsters players can encounter in SLF.

The Professor recounts a solid list of all five of the rare unique monsters found throughout the VR game. He glosses over Lycagon the Nightslayer and Wethermon the Tombguard since most SLF players and the anime viewers know the most about them so far. The other three are new: Ctarnidd of the Abyss, Siegwurm the Sky Ruler and Orchestra the Doom Echo.

Ctarnidd of the Abyss is described as an octopus-like unique monster that appears in oceans, sort of like a Kraken. Siegwurm the Sky Ruler is a random encounter golden dragon, like Lycagon, that is triggered in the Magnanimous Sanctuary area. It flies around a lot, making it hard to fight. Lastly, Orchestra, the Doom Echo, is the most mysterious since no player has reported seeing it. The only public information is that a player went into the royal library of the Ainverth Kingdom to find out the unique monster can control elements of the weather.

As stated before, Shangri-La Frontier Season 2 Episode 3 balances out these big expository moments with some comedy. It was hilarious that Pencilgon was able to “extort” the Professor out of 100,000,000 mahni (SLF’s in-game currency) in exchange for her rare item, Tome of Truth: The Tombguard! Essentially, it’s a rare item that contains all the information on Wethermon, but it’s not really worth what the Professor paid. Sunraku and Oikatzo weren’t shocked that Pencilgon could haggle, though.

Next up, Schwarz Vulf’s leader, Psyger-100, asks Sunraku for any and all information on Lycagon since their clan’s goal is to slay it. Sunraku tells Psyger-100 everything, which really impresses her a lot—almost like the way Boa Hancock loves Luffy in One Piece. Also, it’s interesting how Sunraku deduces that Pencilgon and Psyger-100 may know each other IRL. It really reinforces how his observation skills on another level. The anime watchers already see his analytical traits a lot when he fights, but it’s cool to see how much intel he gathers—even from a solo encounter with Lycagon.

Shangri-La Frontier- But Why Tho

To conclude the round of questions for Sunraku, SF Zoo’s leader Animalia asks Sunraku more on Rabituza and how her clan can get a special, free pass into the Vorpal Bunnies’ kingdom. Sunraku sweats buckets because he doesn’t want to get into how he got the rare, unique scenario of befriending Emul and meeting his Vorpal Bunny mentor, Vash.

As Emul talks about making a deal with SF Zoo and Rabituza, she reveals her eldest brother is the king of Rabituza named Aydward. Again, Sunraku’s observation and analytical skills are on point because he assumed Vash was the leader of Rabituza the whole time. Now, he assumes Vash retired and handed over leadership to his son. Emul ends up portaling off back to Rabituza to talk to Aydward to negotiate the deal with the SF Zoo clan.

While Shangri-La Frontier Season 2 Episode 3 was world-building heavy, it feels very much like a proper meeting among clans. Any player who’s in a clan in MMORPGs like Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, or Black Desert Online will connect with this feeling. Similarly to Sunraku’s hesitation to share information, many players in MMOs want to keep game secrets to themselves as much as possible. Unless they’re really nice about it or a video game outlet is trying to build a guide.

Throughout the meeting in Shangri-La Frontier Season 2 Episode 3, there’s some small, heartwarming reactions from Rei. When the Oikatzo and Pencilgon call Sunraku a “freak” but use the term “hentai”, the animation showing Rei’s reaction IRL is priceless. Her face brightens to a luminescent red in embarrassment despite her SLF avatar maintaining its tall, helmeted composure.

A lot of vital information is revealed in this episode, so pay attention and be sure to catch all the various dialogue and details. Shangri-La Frontier Season 2 Episode 3 has a lot of characters, and opens up a lot of questions. The title is fitting because there’s so many interwoven threads weaved in this episode, and it seems like the conversation will still carry over. Every moment of this episode is intriguing, and it will be interesting to see how this meeting ends.

Shangri-La Frontier Season 2 Episode 3 is now streaming on Crunchyroll.
