As Loid navigates thrilling espionage missions while maintaining a hilarious facade as a family man, Eguchi’s portrayal has won the hearts of viewers around the world. In this exclusive interview, we sit down with Takuya Eguchi to delve into his experiences voicing Loid Forger, discuss the process behind his captivating performance, and explore what is to come next for SPY x FAMILY . The following interview has been edited for clarity and length.

This interview was conducted via translator and has been edited for length and clarity.

But Why Tho: What first attracted you to audition and voice Loid Forger, and how did you approach bringing his unique personality to life through your voice acting?

Takuya Eguchi: I am very conscious when recording that the tempo of the storytelling is very high-paced. So there are parts where I have to speak very quickly, or there are scenes that are very emotional. To capture all those gaps in that emotional spectrum, I really make it a point to put my all into the process.

But Why Tho: Loid is a complex and multi-dimensional character. How did you navigate the balance between his serious and stoic nature as a spy and his comedic moments as a loving father and husband?

Takuya Eguchi: I really try to focus on these two elements of the character. The fact that he’s a very cool character so ensuring that my performance portrays that. As well as humanizing the character to ensure that it is in my portrayal. So I strive to strike a balance between those two elements of the character and capture them in my portrayal.

But Why Tho: SPY x FAMILY features a diverse cast of characters with their own unique personalities. How did you establish chemistry with your castmates, and how did that collaboration enhance the overall performance of the series?

Takuya Eguchi: I met Hayami who plays Yor very early in my career. So we are very close and we know exactly how to work off of each other. I have also worked a lot with Tanezaki, Matsuda who play Anya, and Bond. I know their strengths and do not have to think too much about our roles. We can naturally communicate and work off of one another.

But Why Tho: Without giving any spoilers, what are you most looking forward to fans seeing in the upcoming season and or film?

Takuya Eguchi: For season one we obviously worked off the manga, but there are some surprises included. There are original things from the first season that will continue into the second season. The team wants to surprise the audience. Also, the movie is completely original under Endo-sensei’s supervision. So no one really knows about it, but he wants everyone to be surprised and look forward to it.

You can watch the complete first season of SPY x FAMILY on Crunchyroll.
