EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW: First Look at the Magical Girls Powers of FLAVOR GIRLS #2

Reading Time: 2 minutes

BOOM! Studios shared a first look at FLAVOR GIRLS #2, the next issue of the brand new comic book series from highly acclaimed illustrator and cartoonist Loïc Locatelli-Kournwsky and colorist Eros de Santiago, about a young woman suddenly called to join a group of magical heroes whose powers derive from the Earth in order to defend against a great looming danger. Available August 2022.

With clear inspiration from the magical girl genre, Sara is going out of this world as the newest member of the FLAVOR GIRLS! At an extraplanar location called “The Temple,” Sara and her fellow Flavor Girls hone their unique powers with Master Himiko as an encroaching threat looms ever closer.

If you’re unfamiliar, FLAVOR GIRLS is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ award-winning Archaia imprint which features graphic novels and single issues that span genre and inspiration. With Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, Ryan North, and Albert Monteys; The Sacrifice of Darkness by Roxane Gay, Tracy Lynne-Oliver, and Rebecca Kirby; Big Black: Stand at Attica by Frank “Big Black.” As well as licensed series including Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember in the Ashes, Lev Grossman’s The Magicians, and Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, The Storyteller, and Labyrinth.

We called the first issue of the series “an excellent beginning to what is poised to be an exciting story in a world equal parts expansive and charming. While I don’t yet feel like I know the characters particularly well after one issue, they at least strike me as strong exhibitions of classic archetypes who will offer all the charm inherent in those types of characters. I’m very excited for more and hope that its short run can fulfill the expectations this opening issue has set up.”

Print copies of FLAVOR GIRLS #2 will be available for sale on August 17, 2022 exclusively at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one) or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and Kindle.
