XSEED Games has announced that digital pre-orders for both the standard and deluxe editions for Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin are available now on PlayStation 4. Plus, a special theme image revealed today, featuring the titular harvest goddess, Sakuna, is available only as a pre-order incentive exclusively on the PlayStation Store.
Developed by Edelweiss, the team behind the indie darling Astebreed, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin combines side-scrolling action with deep crafting and rice cultivation. Players take on the role of Sakuna, a spoiled harvest goddess banished to a dangerous island with a group of outcase humans. As she explores the beautiful, yet foreboding, environments of the island, she will also find a home in a mountain village, proving herself worthy of her title by harvesting rice and bettering the lives of humanity.
The game features refined side-scrolling action, letting players use farm tools as weapons to chain together quick, heavy and special attacks and take down demonic beasts. Mastering the magical divine raiment will be essential to grapple to distant platforms, evade danger and overcome powerful enemies.
Additionally, learn the ancient art of agriculture by following detailed steps from planting to harvesting to cultivate the perfect crop. As a harvest goddess, Sakuna’s strength grows with each successful rice crop with attributes such as aesthetic and flavor directly correlating to her combat abilities.
Sakuna’s mortal companies add to the journey, making weapons, armor and meals for her using materials and ingredients gathered on her adventures, and completing quests for them will unlock even more options.
The digital deluxe edition for PS4 includes the base game, a 42-track digital soundrack, four exclusive PS4 system themes and a set of nine avatars, all for $49.99.
Digital pre-purchase for the base game is also available for Nintendo Switch.
Additionally, the title is available for Wishlisting on Steam, which will also offer a digital deluxe version as well as the standalone game. The Steam version of the digital deluxe edition includes a digital 130-page artbook and soundtrack for $54.99.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin will release with two retail editions for PS4 and Switch, a standard release priced at $39.99 and a special Divine Edition priced at $59.99. Both versions are available on the XSEED Games Store and at participating retailers.
