This week, the baddest bitches in anime are back with help from JJBA superfan, Cidnya, from CidnyaReads. In this episode, the trio dive into the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure live-action from VIZ Media and directed by Takashi Miike. In JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable Chapter I a teen gifted with supernatural powers, Josuke Higashikata (Kento Yamazaki) discovers evil lurking within his town and mysteries within his bloodline. He learns about the world of stands, his power, and the motives of the evil claiming lives across the town. With insane visuals and even wilder fashion this adaptation is right up Miike’s alley. We’ve now covered four of his films, Blade of the Immortal, Ace Attorney, Yakuza Apocalypse, and now, Jojo.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure live-action is directed by Takashi Miike and based on the Diamond Is Unbreakable story arc of the manga series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki. Covering the first seventeen chapters, the film stars Kento Yamazaki, Ryunosuke Kamiki, Nana Komatsu, Masaki Okada, Mackenyu Arata, Takayuki Yamada, and Yusuke Iseya. It was released in Japan by Toho and Warner Bros. on August 4, 2017 and licensed for North American release by Viz Media.
While we critique and talk about the film itself, we also go in deep on the manga’s inspirations, how to watch the long series, and into which boys are best boys in the Jojo world. And don’t worry, there’s also a lot of our signature thirst. I mean, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure live-action is great – but where does it fall in everything?
