Halloween is upon us and while most people are thinking about which scary and non-scary movies to watch, everyone forgets about tv shows. The silver screen has offered up some of the best non-scary content around and often in a just as binge-worthy format. Here are the top 13 non-scary tv shows.
Over the Garden Wall
Over the Garden Wall was a mini-series that debuted on Cartoon Network. The series follows brothers Wirt and Greg who get lost in the unknown on the night of Halloween. They attempt to traverse the strange area and meet the even stranger inhabitants while trying to unlock its secrets to get home with the help of an old woodsman and a bluebird named Beatrice. The phenomenal voice acting cast includes Elijah Wood and Christopher Lloyd with Samuel Ramey, Chris Isaak, and John Cleese. While not spooky, the series is incredibly but beautifully strange and unsettling, which makes it perfect for this list of non-scary tv shows.

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell
The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell is a baking show that also features an overarching story similar to The Addams Family. While the show does have horror aspects, it is mostly incredibly campy and when melded with its cooking show format makes it downright delightful without being scary.

What We Do In The Shadows
What We Do In The Shadows is a new FX series based on the 2014 hilarious mockumentary of the same name. It follows four vampires living together on Staten Island. However, an unexpected visit from their dark lord and leader reminds the vampires, who previously had been enjoying a relaxing undead lifestyle for hundreds of years, they must complete domination of the New World. What We Do In The Shadows was picked up for a second season in May and the first season is currently available on Hulu and Fox Now.
Supernatural is about to drop its 15th season but since the beginning, the show has always been just the right amount of spooky. The show follows brothers Sam and Dean on their quest to fight demons, ghouls, ghosts, and even angels. A lot of the episodes have horror elements, however, they are very campy and the characters are incredibly adept and well within their element to handle all the things that go bump in the night.
Supernatural is currently streaming on Netflix with season 15 episodes airing on Thursdays starting October 10th on the CW.
Charmed, the original not the reboot, follows a group of sisters who discover they are witches. Together, as the Charmed Ones, they fight evil all while trying to balance having regular lives, jobs, relationships, and friends. Charmed is campy fun that is as much about sappy relationships as potentially world-ending evil that must be stopped at all costs.
These good, and non-scary, witches are a must-watch and can be found on Netflix.
Sabrina the Teenage Witch
The original Sabrina the Teenage Witch is a far more light-hearted series than the new, spookier The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The show follows Sabrina Spellman, a teenager with magical powers, who lives with her wacky and aunts. She tries to navigate teenage relationships, growing up, and school on top of learning to control her witchy powers. The fun premise plus the snarky Salem the cat makes this delightful comedy a must-watch.

The Addams Family
The Addams Family television series first debuted in 1964 and inspired two animated series and a movie franchise. The show follows Morticia and Gomez Addams’ strange family including their giant doorman, Lurch, a disembodied hand named Thing, and their children Pugsley and daughter Wednesday, who has a fascination with death. The show is a classic and its kooky non-scary style is perfect for the whole family.

Teen Wolf is a teen drama following Scott McCall who has been turned into a werewolf. He has trouble controlling his new, strange urges. However, things get even more complicated when his love interest Allison turns out to be from a family of hunters determined to take down the supernatural, especially werewolves. As things in the town get spooky, Scott must accept his curse his fight the evil threatening those around him. Teen Wolf is a teen drama that never takes itself too seriously. It is often put in the same category as Twilight and Vampire Diaries but its comedic edge sets it apart.

Gravity Falls originally premiered on Disney XD in 2015. The show follows twins Dipper and Mabel Pines who spend the summer with their great-uncle, Grunkle Stan in the strange town of Gravity Falls. While on summer vacation, Dipper and Mabel run their great-uncle’s store, The Mystery Shack, with him. There, the two attempt to adjust to the world around them. But when Dipper finds a cryptic journal with insight into the town’s secrets, he and Mabel set off on various strange and spooky adventures.

Beetlejuice: The Animated Series
Beetlejuice: The Animated Series was inspired by the Tim Burton movie of the same name. The show stars Beetlejuice and Lydia. It also includes the recurring characters Delia Deetz and Charles Deetz from the film but did not feature Adam Maitland or Barbara Maitland. The show mostly focused on the relationship between Beetlejuice and Lydia. This kid’s cartoon was on the zanier and darker side but still had a lot of heart much like the original film. Unfortunately, the show has not made the jump to streaming but the DVDs are available on Amazon.
Aaahh!!! Real Monsters
Aaahh!!! Real Monsters is a cartoon developed for Nickelodeon that follows Ickis, Oblina, and Krumm, monsters-in-training at the Monster Academy, under the city dump. There, the three learn to frighten humans. However, more often than not, their attempts don’t quite go as planned. Aaahh!!! Real Monsters is one of Nickelodeon’s best series.

Goosebumps was a live-action series based on the books by R.L. Stine of the same name. Each episode, like each book, follows a different, seemingly average kid in a bizarre alternate reality where they find themselves facing everything from haunted amusement parks, possessed Halloween masks, and other strange and terrifying situations.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Buffy the Vampire Slayer follows Buffy who comes from a long line of women chosen to seek out and destroy vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness. In her quest, Buffy makes some of her best friends, falls in love, and kicks a lot of ass. This teen drama has a lot of horror elements but it is balanced out with its campiness and comedic elements. Over the years, Buffy the Vampire Slayer has gained a cult following.
